This is a list of a few reasons why HOT FUZZ is my current favorite flick. Yes, that position does rotate, as I wear out certain movies through repeat viewings, The Princess Bride, Galaxy Quest, Slither, Mansquito, etc...
I'm sure the same will happen to this one, but for the time being here are a few of the reasons why I love HOT FUZZ.
ACCURATE 80'S KID REFERENCE
As all two of you who follow my blog know, Juno didn't exactly rock my socks last year. An okay distraction? Yes. In my top movies of last year? That's a BIG NO.
One of my nagging issues with that film was it's pick of an 80's kid line. Anybody who's worth their 80's kid salt knows the big catch-phrase is not "Thundercats Are Go!" it's "Thundercats, HO!!".
This film, however, gets it right. "By the power of Greyskull!" indeed.

CATE BLANCHETT AND PETER JACKSON ARE IN IT
Nine times out of ten, movies are made exponentially better by one or both of their involvement. Edgar Wright was wise drafting them, even if just for cameos. See if you can spot them, kids!
THE EDITOR IS OFF F**KING THE CHAIN
Quick scene-blendy cuts galore and all very well done.
DIRECTOR LOOKS A BIT LIKE RUFUS WAINWRIGHT
Not really a fan, but a friend pointed this out to me and now I'm imagining the guy can write, direct and play a mean hipster piano tune.

ANTI-MOVIE SNOB'S MOVIE
I hate movie snobs, despite the fact that I am a bit of one, myself. If you can't see any good beyond stuffy foreign films and heavy dramas featuring academy award-winning casts, then you are not a fun person.
Movie snobs don't understand the concept of a good-bad movie. It's all black or white for them. There are great movies that are appallingly unrewatchable and bad movies that are fun to rewatch into infinity, such as Flash Gordan, circa 1980.

Bad Boys II and Point Break are good-bad movies. Sure, on some level they kinda' suck, but damn, if they're not fun to watch. This movie is a tribute to the good and the good-bad cop movies of yore and it's all love.
GORE, GORE, AND MORE GORE
It's not just any gore, people. It's gleeful gore. This guy had FUN making the blood and guts gush and splatter in as big an"Eww!!"-inducing a way, as possible. And for that, I love him.

VIOLENCE FROM OR AGAINST OLD PEOPLE
Little is funnier than violence from or against old people and babies. Dave Chappelle understands this. And so does whoever makes up all those dead baby jokes.

SIMON PEGG AND NICK FROST ARE IN LOVE
They truly are. And it's more sweet and genuine, than any romantic comedy I've seen in a good long while. They get the head-tip-'aww'-stupid grin, from me.

THE SWAN
Anyone who's seen this movie, knows the swan is the real star, point blank.

That probably wasn't the least bit entertaining and a complete waste of time, for the two of you who read this on the regular.
Nonetheless, I hope this comes close to sufficing for something to read on the internet for 1.3 minutes, until I post a review.
Expect an actual review at some point this week. I hope folks had a wonderful Easter/Spring Break.

I loved this movie, and just bought it at a Hollywood Movie out-of-business sale. I LOVED it's constant tribute to all the good-bad cop movies - Lethal Weapon, Point Break, and Bad Boys were the most obvious, but I feel like there were lines from more. I'll have to rewatch soon to figure it out. You should do more of these reviews - I like them as much as the new releases!
This movie was in my Top 5 for last year. I could watch it, and Shaun of the Dead, over and over and over again, if someone would let me.
I need to purchase this as well (along with Shaun of the Dead). Though it's not in my Top Flicks of All Time, it was in the tops for last year (um, along with Juno).
Love the pics you found for this, though I missed the Jackson cameo (I think). Where was it? I did, however, catch the Blanchett one right off.
Anything that has to do with Point Break is okay in my book (one of my all-time favorite action movies, by the way).
So... what you are saying is that I should go see this movie? Is it on DVD yet?
that's quite a freaky gif you have there of a pointy piece of rock squashing a man's head
Awesome mini-review of an awesome movie!
In regards to your referencing Flash Gordon, this must be said:
FLAAAASH!! AAAHHH!!!!
Try it, it's fun!
As for Hot Fuzz, me and my friend Bill saw this in the theater and we just loved it. It was easily the most kickass movie we've seen at the time and because I'm a bit of a cheapskate, I'm waiting for the price to go down a bit before I buy it. (It's now 21 bucks at Target for some reason.)

I really enjoyed Hot Fuzz too but I'm sorry to say I didn't notice Cate Blanchett or Peter Jackson. Couldjya help me out and say where they were in the film? Otherwise I'm going to be scratching head over this for weeks.
By the way, found you thru LAMB and I'll be back!
