Yes, I know I posted the American trailer, already...But the Japanese one? WINS.
If you don't you know anything about Watchmen and watch the U.S. trailer, you might think "OH! It's just another comicbook, super-hero, thing."
But then you watch this...
And yup, you see it's definitely a bit different from that. We advertise SLO-MOFIGHTS! SEX! HERO-POSE! ROCK MUSIC! They go for the ideas and themes.
So, Japan? I ♥ U, for this ...and Voltron, Tranzor-Z, Robotech, Miyazaki...
EDIT: I just realized Rorschach sounds exactly like Bale's Batman...damn, now he's ruined, for me.

I am still not sold on this. I loved the Graphic Novel but so far Snyder hasn't impressed me. I didn't like 300 or the Dawn of the Dead remake. To me he seems to have trouble creating interesting characters and Watchmen is a very character driven story. I will give it a shot simply because I love the grapic novel but I have my doubts.
btw, not sure if I said this yet but I recently ran across your blog and I really enjoy it.
@rick
Thank you. :)
I agree with you. ...Well, except for the Dawn of the Dead remake.
That movie is my ish. They had me at Ving Rhames, zombie baby, Sarah Polley, dry-erase board shenanigans and the security guard with the 70's porno mustache.
But 300? Was a pile of racist/homophobic(and homoerotic too, wtf?)/misogynistic dookie.
Pretty, yes. But still (slo-mo) poo, nonetheless...
Since it's 1:1 for me, I'm cautiously optimistic.
I wasn't thrilled with 300, but I'll be damned if I'll let you badmouth Dawn of the Dead! Seriously, it was the first zombie movie in years to make me feel like someone was atleast attempting to do something different. It was just a helluva lot of fun. More fun than a zombie movie had any business being. Plus it had my top 10 crush Lindy Booth all over it.
As for the Japanese trailer? Yeah, it's better. Much better. I don't think I can word it better than you did, except to say that the Japanese have an incredible ability to make EVERY film seem epic. We who are Watchmen fans know it already, but our trailers don't really get that across. This version spells it out perfectly.
is it just me or does the japanese announcer guy sound like the US announcer guy who was in those insurance commercials?
I think The Dawn of the Dead remake had some cool moments. There was definitely some good gore and the opening sequence showing all the destruction was kind of cool. But, honestly... overall the movie bored me. I didn't find any of the characters interesting enough to care whether or not they lived or died and that is kind of important to me in a movie about survival.
I know I am totally in the minority on this one but I didn't find it at all fun. Everyone has different tastes though, it would be boring if we all had the same tastes. Then there would be no point in having wonderful movie blogs. haha.
As for the Watchmen trailer (since I am not trying to highjack this blog post and turn it into a Dawn of the Dead argument), The Japanese version does definitely look better and gets across more of the actual story then the American trailer does. I'm wondering if them leaving the Nixon bits out of the American trailer have anything to do with the recent release of Frost/Nixon or if the studios just assume that adding a historical figure to the trailer would make it harder to sell to American Audiences.
@rick
It's okay if you hated Dawn of the Dead. Really.
Also, the second half of your last sentence would be the answer there.
@trav
I don't know if it would come across as "epic" to the majority of U.S. audiences, but as far as telling you what the movie's about (well, if they are going by the comicbooks) without giving all the best bits away? Yup.
@vuboq
Hmm, I'll have to listen more closely.
